MEDIA RELEASE

Waimea landowners urged to get in quick for dam share offering

To summarise

  • Expressions of interest have so far been received for more than 80% of the minimum number of shares required for the dam project to proceed.
  • If the dam proceeds, water permit holders without shares in Waimea Irrigators Ltd (WIL) will have very limited availability in most seasons and a likely discount in property value.
  • Landowners also need to consider the impact of the Tasman Resource Management Plan (TRMP) which has very serious water implications for all Waimea landowners.
  • Under the new plan, in a no dam situation, all properties will have reduced water permit allocations permanently and more regular and severe water rationing.
