MOUNTAIN BIKE PARK PLAN PUT OUT

A design for tracks in the planned Kaiteriteri mountain bike park has been released, with those behind the park saying it has the potential to be “exceptional”. Three of the tracks had been designed around the natural features of the land, with one track at beginner-intermediate level using a natural half-pipe formation. The Kaiteriteri Recreation Reserve Board is due to discuss the park proposal at its November meeting.

TDC CLEARS WAY FOR DRAG RACERS

The Tasman District Council has given its seal of approval to an agreement between drag racers and users of the Motueka Aerodrome, a move that helps pave the way for drag races to continue to be held at the airstrip until a new venue is found. The Nelson Drag Racing Association and a group of airport users signed the memorandum of understanding last month, with the council, as land owners, agreeing to the document yesterday. The drag association still has to renew its resource consent and a licence to use the airport before it can hold drag races at the aerodrome this summer. The organisation’s resource consent runs out at the end of the year.

Taking peek into the future

Building consent is being sought to turn the former site of sex shop Peek a Boo Adult Boutique at Victory Square into a café. Laurel Williams and Ash Hilton said they expected to know within the next two weeks whether their plans had been accepted, and it would take another two months to carry out the refit. Ms Williams said the Victory Garden Café would seat between six to 10 people and would be open during the day from Tuesday to Saturday. It aimed to be a “small low-key” neighbourhood place, where people could drop in and grab a coffee and something to eat, she said. The couple have worked in the hospitality industry for 15 years – Mr Hilton as a chef and Ms Williams in the front of house. They saw a gap in the Victory Square area as few healthy quick food options were currently available there, and more people were moving into the area, she said. Peek A Boo has moved to Vanguard St.
Incentive to move quickly

A three-bedroom home on a 0.8ha site on Motueka’s Dehra Doon Rd is being offered for sale with a sporty red MX5 thrown in to sweeten the deal. Agent Graham Durrant of Motueka First National said the owners of the property had two MX5s and the one included in the sale was surplus to requirement. “It’s certainly getting people to the property at this point,” Mr Durrant said. The house has a GV of $445,000, and was on a bush-clad hillside with views out to Tasman Bay.
River property sells fast
A 14.8ha property up the Motueka Valley bordering the Motueka River has sold for between $1.1 to $1.2 million plus GST shortly after going on the market. The property’s GV in 2005 was $810,000. Agent Graham Durrant of Motueka First National said it was on the market for under two weeks. He said the property had an older home that had had a lot of money spent on it. It was currently used for a mix of lifestyle and cattle grazing, with portions of it also devoted to apples, pears and blueberries.
Cottage attracts offer
An historic kauri cottage on Milton St, Nelson has a conditional offer on it, after it went to auction on October 18. Agent Lyn McKenzie of First National Richmond said the cottage at 149 Milton St was reportedly built in 1866 and believed to have housed early settler and provincial councillor William Collins. The one-bedroom cottage retained some original features and had a rateable value of $235,000.
